External clearances from gaps to obstructions

Tests have shown that solid obstacles near edges of flanged joints affect the free flow of cooled gases passing out of the enclosure and may impair the certified operation of the enclosure. The pressures developed by subdivision IIC gases are greater than IIA and IIB.

Obstacles may be steel work, walls, weather guards, pipes or other electrical equipment.
